A product that adds a user interface, integrations, or workflow automation on top of an existing AI model (usually via API). The term is sometimes used dismissively ('it's just a wrapper around GPT'), but well-built wrappers add significant value through domain-specific prompting, tool integrations, guardrails, and user experience. Most AI agent platforms are technically wrappers—the question is how much value the wrapper layer adds beyond raw model access.
A customer support platform that connects to Claude's API, adds your knowledge base as RAG context, integrates with Zendesk for ticket management, implements confidence-based escalation rules, and provides an analytics dashboard. It's an 'AI wrapper'—but it transforms a raw API into a production-ready support agent that non-technical teams can deploy.
