A curated, version-controlled library of tested and approved prompts that teams use to configure AI agents, ensuring consistency, quality, and compliance across deployments. A prompt catalog stores system prompts, few-shot examples, output templates, and guardrail instructions—each with version history, performance metrics, and approval status. This prevents the common failure mode where different team members write ad-hoc prompts of varying quality, and ensures that prompt changes go through review before reaching production.
A support team's prompt catalog contains 15 tested system prompts: one for billing inquiries, one for technical troubleshooting, one for account management, etc. Each prompt has been A/B tested, has documented performance metrics (resolution rate, CSAT score), and requires manager approval to modify. When a new product launches, the team creates a new prompt variant, tests it against the golden dataset, and promotes it to production through the catalog.
